After years of deliberation and growth, I am taking this blog in a new direction. I don't want to delete any past posts (or make a new one) because it is from our past that we draw knowledge and experience. It is from our past that we learn how to make tomorrow different.
Regardless of what in love, school, family, friends has happened, all of it...
ALL OF IT makes a difference and plays a part in who I am today.
I think our generation could take a lot from this simple notion. Do not dwell on the past, for it is gone and nothing can be changed. Take what happened and record it in memory. Use it to better yourself.
So, my point.
The parents of our generation cannot be wholly blamed for the unrest and unhappiness we feel. Every generation before us has blamed the one before them and I believe that it is in this attitude that we perpetuate the cycle. This is what I think that cycle is.
A youth is born into a certain life. Over time that youth learns from her parents that she is subject to what life she was born into. She will be influenced remain in her class, whatever it may be, either directly or indirectly by the attitude and actions of her parents. As she looses the innocence of youth, she takes this as truth. Her actions are now, either directly or indirectly, going to be influenced by this ideal. She grows up and does whatever results in her staying right where she was born, has kids, and teaches them that this is where you are meant to be, because this is where you were born.
Our hypothetical representative is playing into what has been set up for her, she probably blames her parents for whatever hardships she endured.
This is wrong.
The one thing I think that needs to be recognized is that in putting blame on those before us, who were just doing the best they could with what they had, is exactly the attitude that continues this cycle.
That is not to say we should be okay with what the past generations have given us. It is far easier to be angry than forgiving.
Anger is necessary; it is inspiring, it is motivating, it stirs up a need for change, it creates discussion.
It is not enough to feel unrest, something must be done.
SOMETHING, ANYTHING.
Taking this new direction with writing I have certain goals.
1. I want to be more concise with my speech and my writing.
2. I want to share the things I learn and deem to be vital in creating real change.
3. I want to take the first steps toward making this change.
Critique is always welcome. Comments are monitored (but only for spam).
I promise to publish anything that will create an open, intelligent, public forum; but I won't promote any sort of commercial entity.
We can change this cycle. It is up to us to makes sure the next generation is provided with new ideals that will create real change.
